The Maasai Mara Science and Development Initiative.

Karen Blixen Camp Trust is a partner in the Maasai Mara Science and Development Initiative.

The Maasai Mara Science and Development Initiative (MMSDI)  is a community of researchers working across disciplines, NGOs and representatives of the communities in the Mara. The aim of the partnership is to contribute to conserving the Maasai Mara ecosystem, its rich wildlife and culture through interdisciplinary research and development initiatives.

Partners in the network are:

  • Aarhus University, Denmark
  • University of Nairobi, Kenya
  • Kenya Wildlife Trust, Kenya
  • Karen Blixen Camp Trust, Kenya
  • the local community of Mararianta, Kenya.

Our role in the research activities is principally to support the researchers with accommodation and research facilities at Karen Blixen Camp at reduced costs, to help with access to our large network of local stakeholders, and communication about the projects and findings to our followers and partners.

Researchers and students are continuously working in the Mara, collecting data and sharing their findings with the local stakeholders and population. It is our hope that this will contribute to  sustainable development of this unique ecosystem and within the society.
